This happens with Paint Shop Pro 7 from time to time - to rectify it, first close Paint Shop Pro 7, then left-click Windows Start button .

What does Copy, Cut and Paste mean?
Cutting (or copying) and pasting an image simply means you are temporarily placing a copy of your image into Windows Clipboard. You can then paste this image to a different location.  There are two ways you can cut and paste - you can either right-click the top menu bar of the image you want to cut (or copy) - and select your choice from the following drop-down options.

Alternatively, you can utilise the Edit tool (from the top menu) - where you will be given exactly the same Paste options.
To demonstrate the second option, I am going to Copy one image of a fish; and paste it onto a second canvas. Therefore, activate the image you wish to copy to another
location, by left-clicking its top menu.

Then open the second image.

And from the top menu of Paint Shop Pro, left-click Edit, then choose Cut. Then, activate the second image by left-clicking its top menu.

Then from the top menu of Paint Shop Pro, choose Edit then choose Paste as a New
Layer

You will notice there is no Plugins Folder (as illustrated above); therefore, before installing your Plugins, you first need to create a Plugins Folder in Corel Paint Shop Pro’s main programme files. To do this, navigate to Corel’s main programme files via Windows Explorer - as explained in my Installing Plugins PDF. How do I disable the Crop Tool’s Floating Palette?

How Can I Produce Very Small Preset Shapes And Text Whilst At The Same Time Retain Quality And Avoid Unsightly Jagged Edges?
I find the best approach is to open a fairly large New Image, much larger than is necessary, (600 pixels X 600 pixels or similar dimensions), then set the Resolution to a minimum of 300 pixels. Now, activate the Text or Preset Shape Tool, and apply your Text or Preset Shape as usual;- making it large enough to nearly fill the large canvas. After you have applied your Text or Shape, Rasterise it if necessary, (Layers then Convert to Raster Layer). Then from the Tools Toolbar, activate the Deform, Deformation or Pick Tool, depending on your version.

Paint Shop Pro 8 9 X XI X2 X3 X4 X5 X6 X7 X8 X9
From the Tool Options Ribbon, ensure Mode is set to Scale.

Paint Shop Pro 7
As you resize the Deformation Bounding Box; (at the same time) press and keep pressed your Keyboard’s Alt Key; this resizes your Text/Graphic in proportion.

Now, reduce your Text/Shape’s size by grabbing the top-right deformation handle (that is attached to the large Deformation Bounding Box), and move it in the opposite direction - towards the bottom-left. This in turn reduces your Text or Shape retaining its scale; and should produce a sharper edge.

Help! My Paint Shop Pro 8, 9, X, XI, X2, X3, X4 X5 X6 X7 X8 X9 Photo/Ultimate is no longer behaving as it should, (or won’t launch) how can I improve its performance? Paint Shop Pro 7 Here!
If Paint Shop Pro 8, 9, X, XI, or X2, X3, X4, X5 X6 X7 X8 X9 Photo/Ultimate, stops behaving as it should - for example, its Palettes and Toolbars disappear, or are greyed out, you need to reset its Preferences. To reset Paint Shop Pro’s Preferences, from the top menu, choose File then choose Preferences then choose Reset Preferences. From the subsequent Reset the Application dialogue box, mark the relevant tick boxes - or mark them all, then click
OK. Now, close Paint Shop Pro, then reopen it.
Hopefully, everything will now be working as it should.

Note
After you have reset the Preferences, remember to reset the File Locations; Picture Tubes, Plugins, Gradients, Brushes - etc.

Alternatively: If Paint Shop Pro Won’t Open Or Deleting Preferences Hasn’t Worked
If you cannot open Paint Shop Pro in the first place, or Deleting the Preferences has made no difference: then hover your left-hand’s fingers over the Shift, Ctrl and Alt (Keyboard) Keys - but do not press the keys. Now, with your right-hand, launch Paint Shop Pro in your usual manner: then immediately press and keep pressed the Shift, Ctrl and Alt Keys.
(All three keys must be pressed at the same time)

Before Paint Shop Pro opens, (depending on your Paint Shop Pro version): you will see the following Restore Default State or Delete all Paint Shop Pro registry entries dialogue box. Now, click Yes or OK and Paint Shop Pro will automatically reset the Preferences, (or Delete the corrupt Registry File), and Paint Shop Pro should then open. You will then need to reset the File Locations, and the Preferences. You may be asked to Register Paint Shop Pro - if you have already done so, or you don’t want to Register, ignore the
once-only prompt.

Note
This manoeuvre may take a little practise to achieve, if Paint Shop Pro opens, you need to close it, and repeat the previous steps until you see one of the following dialogue boxes.

Why Won’t Paint Shop Pro X, XI, X2, X3, X4, X5, X6, X7, X8, X9 Photo Open When I
Double-left-click Its Icon?
This problem may be linked to graphics cards that use the NVIDIA chipset. I have found the best thing to do in this situation is to turn down Windows’ Hardware Acceleration: to do this, carry out the following steps: just remember to turn it up again when gaming.

(Windows XP Home).

Right-click over an empty area of your Desktop.

Then click Properties.

From the subsequent Display Dialogue click on Settings.

Then click Advanced. (click OK to the subsequent warning dialogue box).

Now, click the Troubleshoot tab.

Paint Shop Pro X2 Photo won’t install updates (Error 1920.Service Protextlicensing Failed To Start....)
If, after being prompted to install updates in Paint Shop Pro X2: instead of updating, you’re presented with following Error 1920.Service.ProtexisLicensing (ProtexisLicensing) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services dialogue box; the following steps should allow Paint Shop Pro X2 Photo to update.

This workaround worked for me a few months ago, allowing me to successfully install the updates, and stopping the Error 1920 nag-screen.

As you may have guessed, this problem doesn’t have anything to do with privileges. However it does have to do with the ProtexisLicensing service. If you open up the Services snap-in and look for this service you’re likely to find the ProtexisLicensing service in the Starting state.

That’s a problem. Starting means the service is neither started nor stopped. In fact, if you try to stop or restart this service you get an error that the service is currently busy.

The way to get past this error is to launch Paint Shop Pro X2 Photo: then open the Task Manager (Start, then Run and type in TASKMGR and tap the Enter Key: - or tap the
Ctrl, Alt and Delete Keys - at the same time). Now, click the Processes tab, (highlighted above), and locate PSIService.exe in the list. Then left-click it once to highlight it, and then click the End Process button. This will stop the PSIService and the ProtexisLicensing service will be in the stopped state. Now, launch Paint Shop Pro X2 in your usual manner by clicking its icon.

After Paint Shop Pro X2 Photo has started, you can click the Retry button in the downloads error dialogue and the update should finish.
